Maria is really starting to get interested in other babies, at playgroup, and out and about. We were at the library today and another mom with her newborn was there. She wanted to go see her and very carefully looked over the edge of the car seat at her. We think she is going to make a great big sister. She keeps telling us that she is going to be the "big sister". When I ask her if she will teach her sister how to talk, crawl, go potty she always smiles and says "yes".
She knows she will go to a friend's house when we go to the hospital to get the baby and now everyday she keeps asking me if she is going to his house...guess I didn't need to tell her so early, as we will now be asked everyday till she goes!
We were working on getting the nursery organized the other day and Maria wanted to get into the crib. She started turning on the mobile and other musical fish aquarium in there and laid down. Then she asked "sing me, mommy". And of course she wanted twinkle, twinkle(which these days refers to anything having to do with a star also!). So I stared singing and she looked at me and said "I no nap mommy". She just wanted to make sure I knew that she wasn't really taking a nap, in case I didn't know. It made me smile.
Some other fun tidbits about Maria lately:
E-I-E-I-O coming from Maria usually refers to anything that has to do with a farm. Such as her Baby Einstein video called On the Farm, or a farm we might drive by, or her Barney book that plays Old MacDonald, or her block farm set, interesting she can make that connection to so many things.
She is becoming quite the singer...she has a broad repertoire of songs like Frere Jacques(her FAVORITE), Mary Had a Little Lamb, Rain, Rain Go Away, It's Raining, It's Pouring, Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle, Twinkle, ABC's , Baa, Baa Black sheep, Rock A Bye Baby, London Bridge that she knows most or all of the words too. There are a few Nursery Rhymes that she can also recite...it's fun to listen to her while playing or going to sleep as she will often go through several of her favorites.
Since Maria was sick a few weeks back she got used to taking some medicine. A bit of Tylenol for a fever, some Vicks for her congestion/cough, and usually nasal spray for her nose. So she got in the habit of having some and one night told us "I need medicine". Which we replied "No, you're not sick anymore" and she countered "I sick, followed by a cough, cough(a very fake desperate attempt to convince us!) How did she get so smart?
Overheard while she was playing the other day:
(Maria on her play phone)
"hello, it me" pause
"oh, daddy church" (He was preparing for a funeral)
"I talking phone"
She does like to fake call people...not so into the real phone yet, but every once in a while we can get her to say hello, I love you or some short responses to family that call.
Oh, Maria is starting to want to go to the bathroom by herself. She still has trouble getting on the toilet as she isn't quite tall enough yet, even with the stool's help. So, yesterday she had a almost fall in the toilet scare, but came out of it laughing! We love that she is now running to the bathroom instead of away when she has to go. Wednesday while we were out doing some yard work, she had an accident, so the next time I just quickly had her go in the yard, not as easy as with a boy, but we managed. Anyhow, so just a short time later I look over and she is bent over, pants around her ankles going again...only not pee this time! I laughed, then scooped her up and took her inside to the bathroom and explained that we need to go poo inside not in the yard, but it was too funny!
Well, okay, hope that updates you on what's happening here!
We have plenty to praise God for; spring is finally here and we love it!
